Recovery and Reorganisation

Recovery and Reorganisation is a challenging and rewarding area, providing effective, personalised solutions to help clients that have run into financial trouble. This is one of our fastest growing areas, with plenty of opportunities to build your expertise – our trainees say that the variety of work in Recovery and Reorganisation is hard to beat!

You’ll need to be tenacious and approachable, and highly professional to work in Recovery and Reorganisation, as you’ll be investigating the financial affairs of businesses and dealing with sensitive issues – and sometimes challenging clients. It’s a role that requires you to get stuck in, be adaptable and employ a commercial mindset.

Our insolvency work is divided into two areas: Personal Insolvency and Corporate Insolvency. Corporate Insolvency is concerned with protecting the value of insolvent companies and maximising the return to creditors through insolvency procedures. It's a popular area for our graduates and placements, and key in the market.

As a graduate, alongside studying for the ACA qualification, you’ll be working with clients to negotiate the sale of businesses and assets, communicating with creditors, debtors and various other stakeholders and possibly using forensic tracing to investigate and recover assets internationally.

Sometimes we have to close down companies to secure the best outcome for stakeholders. However, the preference is to look at ways to turn the situation around and to try to ensure their survival.

The work of our Corporate Restructuring and Turnaround unit focuses on identifying and resolving issues affecting strategy and performance and coming up with urgent solutions to restore distressed businesses to full health.

Personal Insolvency aims to help individuals in financial difficulty, acting as a broker between the client and their creditors. Working in this area, you’ll be putting together individual voluntary arrangements or managing and recovering the estates of bankrupt individuals.
